Canals, on which you can play the single-handed sailor going through locks aboard small barges or cruise boats, are an essential part of the landscape. The Pont-Canal de Briare, measuring a monumental 662 metres in length, casts its metallic reflections over the Canal latéral à la Loire; while the canals of the Loing, Briare and Orléans make the Gâtinais a universe of its own, a haven of freshness and silence. If you prefer water on the move, test your skill in a canoe on the Loire and the Loiret - the river which gives its name to our department and which has its source in the Parc Floral at Orléans. And for a moment of total relaxation, take a stroll down by the river from Loiret to Olivet, or along the banks of the Loire where you can admire a number of water mills.
